Question

How can I get a refund in my new state of residence when I didn't pay any taxes there but need to file there?

I filled out both Missouri and Iowa(new state) returns, and it shows an Iowa refund but I paid no Iowa state taxes?

There is no way to answer your question without seeing the tax returns.

I assume that you are filing Missouri as a part-year resident and Iowa as a part-year resident.

If that assumption is correct, perhaps, as a part-year resident, you qualified for a refundable tax credit from Iowa.

The return would have to be reviewed before the question can be answered.
