Since you did not live in LA, you will file a nonresident return there and you will prepare it before you do your resident state return for AL. When you do the AL return, you will be able to take a credit for income on which you already paid tax in another state. If you do the nonresident state first, the program will transfer the necessary amounts from LA to AL for you for this credit.
