How do I delete a tax credit I don't qualify for on a state return?

I was looking to see if I qualify, and I don't. It is trying to claim a large credit I don't qualify for that will cause a problem if filed.

Yes, it can certainly cause a problem. States review returns in the period after filing, and they would likely notice this and send you an unpleasant letter.

So tell us what state and what credit?

Colorado, Innovative Motor Vehicle Tax Credit

I opened it to evaluate it, as I have a very new car, upon determining I didn't qualify, it includes it regardless and tries to give me a 7500 tax credit I don't qualify for.

Dr0617 form is used to calculate the innovative motor vehicle and innovative truck credit available for your purchase or lease of a qualifying motor vehicle or truck.

If you are not claiming the credit:

    1. Open your CO state return
    2. continue until you get to the screen Take a look at Colorado credits and taxes
    3. Scroll down to Innovative Motor Vehicle Credit
    4. On the screen Motor Vehicle Tax Credit Assigned to Financing Company? Answer Yes. (your answer won't affect  your state return).

Another way is to try to delete form Dr0617:
