FICA is only entered on a federal tax return from the W-2 for Social Security taxes withheld and Medicare taxes withheld.  It is not a state entry.

Turbo Tax is asking me to

Check This Entry

AL PY Alloc WS: Al FICA taxes attributable to Alabama should be entered since there is a FICA tax amount in the Total Column from the Federal return. If none of the FICA tax in the Total Column is attributable to Alabama, enter a zero.

@ashton10rz Ok...Have you entered a 0 as stated?  If so, what happens when you enter the 0, do you still get a error message?

Alabama is one of just a four states (AL, IO, MA and MO) that allow any state income tax deduction for the Federal Insurance Contribution Act, or FICA, taxes withheld from wages and one of only two (AL and MO) that allow that deduction for the full amount of taxes withheld from wages and the full amount of FICA taxes paid on self-employment income.

Q. How do I determine Alabama FICA taxes on my W-2?

A You may have to do the math yourself.

It appears that you are allocating deductions by state.  It may best be explained by example.

You have a W-2 with $10,000 in box 1 and AL in box 15 and $10,000 in box 16. 100% of you FICA tax in boxes 4 and 6 is allocated to AL

You have a W-2 with $10,000 in box 1 and AL in box 15 and $4,000 in box 16. On a 2nd line, you have  GA in box 15 and $6000 in box 16 on the GA line. 40% of you FICA tax in boxes 4 and 6 is allocated to AL.
