Question

How do I determine if I am a part-time resident or a nonresident?

My legal residence is in Florida (and has remained in Florida), but I am doing a post-baccalaureate program in Maryland.
If I physically lived in Florida for half the year, moved to Maryland for this academic program (and physically lived here for the other half of the year while maintaining legal FL residency), would I file as a part-year resident or a non-resident?

It depends.

If you resided in Maryland for 183 days or more, you would actually need to file a full-year resident return.  Otherwise, you will file a part-year resident return.
