How do I enter my New York 529 contributions on my NY state taxes?

You may be able to deduct up to $5,000 ($10,000 if you're married filing jointly) of your Direct Plan contributions when you file your state income taxes.

 

Follow the steps below to enter your 529 contributions on your NY return:

  1. When you are in your NY return, continue to the screen Changes to Federal Income. 
  2. In the Education adjustments section, click on the Start/Revisit box next to New York 529 college savings account activity.
  3. On the next screen, Enter New York 529 Contributions, enter your 529 contributions and click Continue.

I dont see this option in the Desktop Premier version for NY state. Need help.

The instructions provided by @MayaD will take you to the New York (NY) 529 contribution screens.  You will go through the residency section and then arrive at Changes to Federal Income.

  2. On the next screen, Enter New York 529 Contributions, enter your 529 contributions and click Continue.
