Question

How do I fill out a form 540 for use tax? I have to file a California use tax for an out of state art purchase, I cannot figure out how to enter this in TurboTax.

To enter your use tax on your California return, please follow the instructions below: 

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click on State.
  3. Edit your California return.
  4. On the page Your 2021 California taxes are ready for us to check, click Edit next to Taxes & Credits.
  5. Scroll down to Taxes and select Start next to Use Tax.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
