Use your pay stubs. New York requires employers to report total wages earned everywhere on W-2 Box 16.

You’ll have to split your income in the New York section. It’s hard for you because Washington state has no income tax. Usually, you can subtract the other state wages from the NY total to get the correct NY number. That’s why you need your payroll info.

  • On the screen New York Income Allocation, answer NO to Were all of your wages and/or self-employment income earned in New York State?
  • On Your Form W-2 Summary, tap Edit next to your employer
  • On Allocate Wages to New York, choose an allocation method (days or percentage). The percentage method is more complicated but you can try both.
