Question

How does turbotax calculate "Other state tax withholding" on CA Tax Payments Worksheet? I have an extra amount on line 13d that I have no idea where it came from.

On my California Tax Payments Worksheet, line 13d "other state tax withholding" is populated with an amount, but I don't recognize this amount and I don't know where it came from. How do I trace back to the source of this number?

If you use a Desktop version of TurboTax, you can view the Tax Payments Worksheet in Forms mode and right click on the field to find the data source. I just did this for a return in Desktop and TurboTax provided this explanation for the source of the entry in Line 3D:

Tax Payments Worksheet : TP Other w/h

Federal Forms 1099-INT, 1099-OID and 1099-DIV, State income tax withheld, if the related state id is CA or blank when CA is the resident state; AND Federal Tax Payments Worksheet, lines 17, 18a, 18b and 18c, state column, if related state id is CA or blank when CA is the resident state.
