husband worked two jobs in TX (our home state) and then worked the last 5 months of the year in CA. We're filing as non residents but turbo tax is making us pay CA taxes on TX income. When I add w2 from TX my CA refund goes down. can I use "other adjustments to income" and put TX w2 box 1 info there to substract from CA income?

You need to make sure that only income income Earned in California is entered on CA return.

Follow the steps below

  1. From the left menu select State.
  2. Click continue next to California .
  3. Answer the questions regarding your Residency and your state of Domicile.
  4. Enter 0 for days spent in CA.
  5. Answer No for " Need to Make Electronic Payments Based on a Prior Year?".
  6. Click continue until you reach the screen "Nonresident Adjustments"
  7. On the following screen select NO for "Did you earn all of your income in California?" and enter the income earned in CA.
