Question

I added unemployment income from 2 states to my fed return. When I went to do my taxes for 2 states, all of the income was given to NY and none to MD. How do I fix?

In 2019, it looks like MD unemployment  is taxed in NY.  Now, when I fill out the 2020 state forms, turbotax does not give any income to MD, so turbotax is not filling an income tax form for MD, so how do I get back the federal tax witheld in
 MD?

New York taxes all income earned, even income earned in other states. There is a reduction in tax in New York based on income earned in other states, but all income will appear on the New York return as taxable.

There is an exemption of $10,200 on your federal tax return for unemployment income that is the starting point for your Maryland taxable income, so if your unemployment income is less than that and that was your only income, you would not have a tax liability in Maryland.

You should be able to file a tax return for Maryland if you need to get a refund of taxes withheld there. In the state section of TurboTax, you can choose to file a tax return for any state desired.
