Question

I am a non-resident of NC and earned all income in NC and paid state taxes to NC. I am a resident of SC with no income earned in SC but taxes are due to SC. Why?

You will be taxed on the income you earned in North Carolina by South Carolina because South Carolina taxes their residents on all income, no matter where earned; HOWEVER, they also give a credit for taxes paid to another state.

Please review your SC return and make sure you got that credit. Usually you do the non-resident (NC) first, and then next the resident state (SC) so the credit for the tax flows through from NC to SC.
