Question

I chose to defer the social security part of what I owe (self employed). However, I don't see it mentioned anywhere on my final return. Anyone help?

I chose to have my payment taken out of my bank account at a further date. But it makes no mention of installments anywhere. Where did this deferment go?  I can't find it anywhere!

If you already filed or e-filed your income tax return(s), the information is printed on your return.

It's also on Part V of the Federal Information Worksheet. Scroll down for Direct Deposit or payment and banking information.

  • For the state, review the State Information Worksheet for payment and banking information.

** If the check boxes are checked "NO" and your banking information is not displayed on the Information Worksheet, then the direct debit was not successful.

To make a payment on the IRS website, see IRS payment portal.

If you owe federal income tax, it's because you didn't have enough federal income taxes withheld from your paychecks.

You may complete form W-4 for 2021 and have an additional withheld to prevent owing in the future. You'll get less money in your paycheck but you generally won't ow.

We've got some other possible reasons you owe in 2020:
