Question

I de-leaded our property in Massachusetts in 2022. How can I file the schedule LP with my TurboTax state return?

When you prepares your Massachusetts States taxes, there will be a Massachusetts Credit Section.  From this page, you will select Business Related non-Refundable Credits>lead paint credit. Once entered, the credit will appear in Schedule CMS of your Massachusetts state return with the information recorded such as period end date, certificate number, the credit available etc.  There will be no Schedule LP as the Schedule CMS supersedes Schedule LP. Here is what Schedule CMS looks like with the lead paint credit reported. Keep in mind, this screenshot is for illustrative purposes only.

In previous years TT has generated schedule LP and required you to paper file when taking the MA Lead credit.  I assumed, as you noted, TT and MA DOR had finally streamlined the process to use CMS in lieu of LP, but apparently not.

I just got my notice from the state denying the Lead Credit due to the missing schedule LP.

Dave showed you the forms in Forms mode.  If you are working online, you only have access to interview mode. In Interview mode, once you start the state module, you will see a long list of state-specific credits and state-specific extra taxes.  Read those lists carefully to find the lead removal credit and any other state tax items that apply to you.

Thank you OPUS 17.  More specifically, here is the location (not intuitive!) to claim the $1,500 Lead Paint Credit on the Massachusetts Credits page of the Interview in Turbotax online
