Question asked if I wanted to put some or all of my return to 2024 tax return, I accidentally said yes. How do I change this?

If you did not file your return yet, you can just go back into the state section and walk back through to the end where it asks you what do you want to do with your refund?  Have it refunded or apply it to next year?  There you can change it to get a refund.  Continue through to the end and complete the state.  There you will be able to enter your bank info or select get a check in the mail.

To add, change or delete a current year federal tax refund to next year's taxes before you file your tax return -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Other Tax Situations
Under Additional Tax Payments
On Apply Refund to Next Year, click on the start or update button

Or enter apply federal refund to next year in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to apply federal refund to next year

If you have already filed and your return has been accepted, you cannot change it.

If your return has not been filed yet, you can go back and change your choice.

DoninGA provided the steps to change the choice for a Federal refund above.

To add, change or delete a current year state tax refund to next year's taxes:

  • Go to your State section (Pennsylvania)
  • Click through the interview to the Other Situations section
  • Click "Revisit" next to Apply Refund to Next Year
  • Delete any amount appearing in the box next to "Apply to 2024 Estimated Taxes"

Thank you. I meant this is for PA overpayment, not PA state refund. I would like to receive the overpayment and not use it towards 2024 return. Is this possible?
