I had filed my W2 with MA holdings only for MA. I live in RI, and apparently the amount was claimed in both RI

If you live and work in different states, then both states will tax your income so you will see the same income on both your Rhode Island and Massachusetts tax returns.

 

Your home state (Rhode Island) will give you credit for any tax paid to your work state (Massachusetts) so you won’t be double taxed.
