Massachusetts taxes residents on income earned everywhere. If you live in Massachusetts, then you have to pay tax on income earned in Rhode Island. You can claim a credit in MA for tax paid to Rhode Island in Pay Tax to Another State?

If you are saying TurboTax is adding $28,000 TWICE in Massachusetts, then there’s an adjustment.

In Massachusetts, go to About Your State Wages.

  • Say No to Is this transferred state wage amount correct?
  • Say Yes to Do you want us to transfer only wages identified as earned in Massachusetts from your federal Forms W-2?
  • This will remove the duplicate wages.
