I live in NC but work in VA.I am due a refund from NC but owe over $2000. to VAHow do I avoid this next year?

If your employer is not withholding VA taxes, you should ask them to do so.  Otherwise, your other option would be to make estimated payments to VA for your expected income.  

 

There is a section in the VA tax return where you can set up estimated payments.  You will find this question toward the end of the state tax return.
