Question

I live in Texas and I worked in California for 3 months. I filed taxes on both states. California state sent me a 1099G form this year which shows a refund balance.

I did not really get a check from California, because that amount was all combined with Texas state refund I guess. What Do I need to do? Do I need to report this refund?

The 1099G from CA you received would be for a tax refund received in 2023 for a prior tax year (should be for tax year 2022).  You would enter that 1099G in the "Wages & Income" section using the "Other Common Income" dropdown to find the "State/Local Refund" topic.

If you used the standard deduction last year, then the refund will not be taxable income.  Follow the prompts in TurboTax to enter the 1099G information and calculate any taxable amount.

You should have received the money/payment from CA, it would not be combined/taken by any other state.  Especially, TX which does not have a state income tax or state filing requirement.

Check your bank statements for deposits from CA in 2023 that match the 1099G.
