Question

I’m filing a 1099-MISC as an employee not business owner, questions asked in this portion seem to be geared toward the owner and will not allow me to move forward

If your 1099-Misc reports income in Box 7, you are considered to be Self-Employed.

If you were an Employee, your earnings would be reported on a W-2.

If the amount you received on the 1099-Misc was a one-time event, in the follow-up questions after your entry, indicate that the earnings are 'not my main job' and you had 'no intent to earn money' (screenshots).

This will report the income as 'Other Income' on your return.

However, if you will continue to receive these earnings, report them as Self-Employment income, and you will be able to deduct Expenses against the income.
