Question

I'm working on my state taxes and am stuck in a loop. I live in NY State (not NY City) and it's asking for information from a form IT-201 or IT-203, which I don't have.

Did I tick on something I shouldn't have? How do I fix this?

Do you owe tax? If you do, New York needs information from your 2021 return to accurately compute the tax penalty.

You have the option to skip computing the penalty and New York will bill you. The penalty will be the same.

Go to the New York section.

  1. On the screen “You Just Finished Your New York Return,” scroll down to Other Forms and Voluntary Contributions
  2. Tap UPDATE on Penalties
  3. On “Underpayment Penalty” select SKIP

If you want to compute the penalty yourself and need your last year’s tax return, here's what to do.

If you used TurboTax last year see How do I view, download, or print a prior-year return?

Otherwise, you can get a copy from your accountant or tax preparation website or from New York state at Get a copy of my return.
