I made money in two states where I am not a resident. Do I still need to file a tax return for my resident state, South Carolina, if I made no income there?

I'm an out-of-state student so I didn't make any money in my home state. Not sure if I need to file for SC

Yes.  You must always file a return in your home state.  That's because your state of legal residence can tax ALL your income, regardless of where it was earned.

You'll be able to take a credit on your home state return for taxes paid to non-resident states, so you won't be double-taxed.
