Question

I moved to California on March 10 2024 from Arizona on PCS orders, but CA is my home of record. Do I qualify as a Non Resident or Part time resident

Moved to California 10 March 2024. Was stationed in Arizona before that. Do I qualify for 540NR?

You would be considered a Nonresident for the time you were in Arizona, so Part Year would apply for the time you were stationed in California.  You would have to file the Parr Year return so only the California income is taxed.

Because your domicile (Home of Record) is California, you are a resident, and you pay tax on all income while permanently stationed in California.  If you are stationed in another state, you are considered a nonresident and do not pay tax on the income earned in the other state.

    See Military | FTB.ca.gov.

So when I start my state, I don’t get the option for part time. I either have to do resident (which I would owe) or non resident (which I would get back). I don’t want to do the wrong choice and owe money later on

If you are using TurboTax online, go back to the Personal Info section and look for the screen below.  You should then be able to go back to the State section and get the correct California Part Year resident return.  @agroracing
