Question

I moved to New York City from a different part of New York State in 2023. How do I calculate my New York State allocations based on my residency?

My understanding: NY resident all year, NYC resident, part year.

How to fix the problem of income allocation to NYC.

  1. Review your NY return
  2. Select that you are a part year resident with the correct dates
  3. On the following screen, you will see all income taxable to the city unless you edit income and allocate
  4. Edit
  5. Select how to allocate NYC wages, I recommend allocate by percent
  6. Part year wages, select answer appropriate for you
  7. Enter the percentage of wages earned while a resident
