I received a solar tax credit. How do I find out the unused balance that will be applied next year?

I am to receive a federal tax refund of around $1000. Does this mean that I didn’t use any credit from the solar credit?

You'll find your carryover amount to tax year 2024 on line 16 of Form 5695. You can view Form 5695 before you file using the guidance in the TurboTax Help article How do I preview my TurboTax Online return before filing?.

If you're receiving a refund this year, that doesn't mean you didn't use any of the solar credit. It's a non-refundable credit, meaning you can only use enough of the amount to offset the tax you owe. If any is leftover, you can use it against tax in later years.
