I was a resident in both NY and CA in 2017. Will I need to use my NY ID to e-sign on my NY state return even though it is no longer valid?

It depends - If you are efiling a part year NY resident state income tax return, then you can use your new (CA) drivers license.

If you are filing as a full year resident in NY, then you will want to use your NY drivers license to efile (even if it is no longer valid).
