Question

I was a resident of Ohio for half of 2024. To qualify for the Ohio Business income deduction, does the business need to have been operated in Ohio?

No. Any individual with any business income is eligible to claim the deduction, regardless of residency status or where the income is earned.

The deduction can only be claimed by filing an individual income tax return (Ohio IT 1040), and completing the Ohio Schedule of Business Income.

Only business income earned by a sole proprietorship or a pass-through entity generally qualifies for the deduction. A pass-through entity includes partnerships, S corporations and LLCs (limited liability companies).

    Ohio Department of Taxation.
