Question

I was taxed in MI where I live, but work in IN. My W2s show I made $0 in IN. My employer has a MI state ID#. The only thing out of state is the address of the employer. I do not understand why TurboTax wants to charge me money to file an out of stat

I live in MI and work in IN (They are reciprocal states). My employer has MI state, city, and township (of where I live) taxes taken out. Indiana has $0 taken out.

My employer has a MI State Employer ID number. My W2s show I made $0 in IN.

When using the free software, why does it say I need to pay $40 and do an out of state return? The only thing that shows out of state is the Employer Address.

No IN tax withheld, no IN form filed. Ignore the computer asking.

You are correct. MI and IN are reciprocal states, When you live in one and work in the other, they should not take out taxes and you do not file a return.
