I work in CA, live in MA. I paid CA SDI as part of an EE deduction tax to CA. When filing taxes in MA, do I add CA SDI into the "total CA tax paid" on the MA form?

When filing my MA taxes do I use box 17 on my W2 plus the CA SDI in box 14 as the total that I paid to CA state taxes? Or the box 17 and the SDI is just a loss?

If you work in CA and live in MA, then you would need to fill out your CA return first then enter then amount from CA 540NR line 41 for the credit for MA. You do not enter the amount from your W2 as part of this may be refunded so you cannot get a credit for any taxes that were refunded to you.

Yes, the SDI, it can be included as a deduction on your MA return.
