I work in RI, live in MA; My spouse works and lives in MA, but Turbo Tax is counting my spouses income in RI as well

My spouse and I live in MA.  She works in MA, but I work in RI.

I get that I have to pay RI tax since I worked there.  There is an offset in MA.  But in Turbo Tax, it looks like it is also counting my wife's income as taxable in RI.  This doesn't make any sense to me.  Am I missing something?

When you start your State returns, you need to add the State of  Rhode Island Return first and then add your State of  Massachusetts return next.  This will trigger TurboTax to ask the right questions in order for your income to populate the correct return.  You may want to delete your state returns and add the State of Rhode Island first, completing it completely before adding your State of Massachusetts Return.

To delete your returns in TurboTax follow these steps:

    1. While in your Tax Home,
    2. Select State from the left side of your screen,
    3. Select Continue,
    4. Select Delete next to each state.
    5. Are you sure?  Yes.
    6. Add your State of Rhode Island Return,
    7. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete this state,
    8. Add your State of Massachusetts Return,
    9. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete this state.
