ID Verification for deceased person

I'm filing for my deceased mother in law for federal and NY state. Do I put her ID in or my wife's, who is the executor of her estate?

    Either will be fine.  The important part is papers showing your wife's appointment as executor.  If your mother-in-law has a refund those papers will have to be included and the return will have to be mailed in.
