Question

If I began college out of state in 2023 but did not begin working in that state until 2024, when did I become a nonresident?

State rules are different for every state.  Do you still go back home on college breaks?  If so, and your address is still your parents address, then for most states you are still a resident of your original state.

Working in another state does not change your residency status, neither does attending college.

If the work is only a side activity while  you are still a student, you are still a non resident of the state the college is located in.

If you graduated and decided to stay in that state, you became a resident when you graduated.
