Question

If I have A traveling job and they are supposed to be holding taxes out for the state I live in and every state I work in why do I still owe my state Louisiana $800

If Louisiana is your resident state, be sure that you have completed the returns for all of your non-resident states first.  Then when going through the Louisiana return, look for Credit for Taxes Paid to Another State and be sure to go through that section.

 

When you have paid taxes to a non-resident state based on money earned while working in that state, your resident state will allow a credit so that the income is not double-taxed.  It may not alleviate all of the balance due for your resident state, but it should help.
