Question

If I moved to NY for school and am claiming residency in ID, but working remotely for my old job in UT, how do I handle the residency stuff?

The money you earn from work actually performed in New York State is NY-source income and is taxable by New York State.  https://www.tax.ny.gov/pubs_and_bulls/tg_bulletins/pit/ny_source_income_nonresident.htm

It is also taxable by your home state of ID.

This reference will explain whether or not you are required to file a NY non-resident tax return:  https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/file/nonresidents.htm

If you do meet the threshold for filing in NY, then in TurboTax be sure to complete the non-resident NY return before you do your home state ID return.  That way you will receive credit on the ID return for taxes paid to NY.
