Question

If I work for the federal government and my spouse works for the state. Where do I file her taxes? My home of record is Texas but she worked in Hawaii.

You mention "work for the federal government" so, if you are active duty military and you are stationed in HI on military orders then your military pay is not subject to HI taxes.  Further, if your spouse is in HI only to be with you on military orders then her income earned while in HI is also not subject to HI taxes.  Here is a link to help you determine your HI filing status and HI source income.

Since TX does not have a state income tax if you meet the above criteria then you do not have state filing requirement.

If your situation is something different, then please repost here with your circumstances as you may have a HI filing requirement.

For example,

1. You did not specifically say you are military.

2. You did not say where you resided in 2023.

3.  If you are not military and lived in HI, long were you in HI?

4.  What other states did you reside in during 2023?

5.  Did you have income other than active duty military pay?
