Income tax withholding without income reported (non-resident)

Hi:

My employer reported taxes in IL (Box 17 W-2) without reporting income, in addition to my income and withholding reported in OH where I reside and earned my wages. Do I need to file a tax return in IL to get the tax withholding refund? Should I just add that state to my TT filing?

you could always ask your employer for a refund and let them file an amended IL-941, if they refuse then you'll have to file Illinois. You could ask them why they w/h for that state so that steps can be taken to see it doesn't recur for no reason.

Yes.  Add IL and file a nonresident return to get your erroneously withheld taxes back.   You can try your employer as Mike9241 suggests, but in the event they don't cooperate, you have the nonresident return option.  Why would I need to file a nonresident return?
