I sold my ten year investment in an apartment complex in Tennessee at a

profit in 2016 at a profit. I owned 3.17% of the building.  I have always been

a California Resident. There is no Capital Gains Tax in Tennessee, but do

I report the profit and pay tax in California ?

Yes, you do. California taxes all of your income no matter where it was made.
