Question
New in 2024, Kansas does not tax SS benefits. We have a federally taxable amount greater than our unrelated Kansas source income. Schedule S line A9 correctly shows the SS taxable amount, carries it to the bottom of part A, but then uses it at line B20 to cancel the KS income completely, resulting in a non-resident result of 0% => no tax due. That seems wrong.
Line B20 says: Enter the net modifications from Schedule S, Part A that are applicable to Kansas source income
The question is whether KS-exempt SS amounts are applicable to KS-source income! Nothing I can find by web-searching answers that question.
