Question

It's telling me I might have to file a two state return for my state but I lived and worked in one place help how do I fix this?

Yes, depending on what you enter in TurboTax, the program may suggest you need to file more than one state. 

 

If you lived and worked in only one state all year, you don't need to file another state. You can review your state information to see if something was entered incorrectly there.

 

 

  1. Sign into your TurboTax account.
  2. Select My info on the left side menu.
  3. Scroll down until you see Other.
  4. Select Edit.
  5. Make sure it says, No, I didn't make money in any other states.

 

 

If that's not it and none of your W-2 forms shows income from a different state in boxes 15, 15 and 17, you can simply skip the extra state, or delete it from your return. 

 

 

  1. Open your return in TurboTax.
  2. Select State Taxes, then Your States from the left-side menu.
  3. Select Delete to the right of the state you don't need.
