Live in MD but was transferred to a DC location in Jan 2019.

My W2 show both MD and DC took out taxes. Do I receive a full refund of the DC taxes that were taken out if I file a non-resident DC return? I was a MD resident for the entire year.

    Yes, you should.

Since there is state reciprocity, you should make sure that your employer only withholds taxes for MD going forward.

DC has a special form for that...that avoids you having to file a full non-resident DC tax return.

You can get it and fill it out using the PDF form and mailing it in.  (and don't try to sue a DC tax return in TurboTax).  A D-40B, and you use Category A.  (You mail it to the address in the isntructions)

Don't forget to fill out  the form to give the employer to get DC withholding stopped, a form D-4A
