Live in NJ but work in NY - Wages number discrepancy - which one to remove

Hello,

I have a bit of a situation: I live in NJ and work in NY, and when I am filing state taxes for NJ, I can remove one of the state wages.

my federal is 60k, my NJ is 34k and my NY is 60k.

Reading the help and the questions already posed online it seems that the best solution is to remove NJ because NY has a value closer to the federal value, but I don't understand why my NJ is so low.

Is it something I should address with payroll?

If I remove NJ my return increases quite a bit.

If you live in NJ, you will file a resident NJ return. And since you work in NY, you will file a Non-resident NY Return.
