Married, both of us are residents of TN but my husband works in NC and I work in TN. Can we file a joint return for NC State like we do for federal

Yes! The only thing you need to do in that situation is under the Personal Info section, answer YES to the ''Did you make money in another state'' question. You are both full-year residents of TN, but you will indicate that one of you earned income in another state (NC). You will file a non-resident joint return for NC.
