Live in WI, work for a company in IL but was put on a job in KS. shouldn't I get all income taxes back from KS?
We live in WI but my husband works for a IL company. He was placed on a job in KS and worked there for 3 months. His IL employer paid him and he wasn't a resident of KS. We realize WI and IL have a reciprocal agreement on income taxes and of course KS doesn't. Since his company isn't located in KS and he isn't a resident of KS, should we enter $0 when asked to "Enter the portion of income received from sources in KS or while you were a resident of KS. If none, enter $0"
There is an dollar amount on his W2 specified for KS but since his company isn't in KS and he isn't a resident, should we enter $0 ? Why would we be charged KS income tax when we are paying WI resident Income tax?
When I first went with the amount populated from our federal return we end up only receiving a portion of the tax paid to KS refunded.... which doesn't make sense to me.
Please help... I'm pulling my hair out with these multiple state returns. This is the first year we've had to do this.
Thank you
