Question

Married Filing Jointly - partner has two states, I have one

I lived in GA for the entire year, my wife lived 3 months in AL, then moved to GA for the remaining nine months. We want to file jointly for federal return - how do we handle the state returns? Seems like we can only pick one status for the both of us on the turbotax platform.

You need to update your wife's Personal Info to add the additional state.  In TurboTax Online please follow these steps:

    1. Within your return click on My Info in the menu on the left of the screen
    2. Choose Edit for the person who lived in 2 states
    3. Under the question "Tell us the state(s) you lived in" populate the drop-down box with the state lived in as of 12/31/21 and answer "I lived in another state" Yes
    4. Choose the previous state from the drop-down
    5. Enter the date the person became a resident of the state lived in at 12/31
