Question

Maryland - Interest Income for non-resident

I am a resident of NJ but had a short term contract for a company in Maryland in Q1 2021.  I am filing a non-resident Maryland state return.  Turbotax is picking up interest income from a joint savings account and including this interest income in the MD state return form 505 line 2 as Maryland taxable income.  Why is this happening?  Is this correct?  I suppose I can override but is this possibly a bug in the software?

It appears that when TurboTax asked you in the Maryland interview about "Non-Maryland Income Allocation" for Interest Income, you did not indicate that this interest was "non-Maryland".

TurboTax should ask for the income allocation for each major income category that you have on the federal return.

Go back through the Maryland interview and look for this screen ("Non-Maryland Income Allocation" for Interest Income).
