Massachusetts pension

I saw this question asked last year and did not find a useful answer. For the 2020 returns, I have entered our state pension information from the 1099-R in the federal tax form exactly. It is supposed to be Massachusetts tax-exempt. On the state page "Pension Adjustment -- Federally Taxable" we are supposed to enter the amount that is Massachusetts exempt, but then it states, "After manually entering an exclusion amount above, you will not be eligible to electronically file your Massachusetts tax return." Why? I have never had this problem before! Last year, it was all filled out correctly. Please advise how to get the MA tax-exempt amount properly entered for 2020 AND then submitted electronically.

Just got off the phone with TurboTax...the box that asks for the amount that is Massachusetts tax-exempt has to be BLANK and not have even a zero in it. Then it worked. If the box had a zero in it, I was going to be taxed for the whole amount. With the zero removed, it came out correctly. I still don't understand why we wouldn't enter the amount that is excluded from MA taxes (that is what it asks!), but this fixed the problem. This seems to be a glitch that needs to be fixed!
