A new Company purchased our company and issued W-2 but no California State ID number was printed on W-2. The new company says they are still waiting for California to issue the ID number.

The new Company CFO says they are still waiting for California to issue the number.

Can I still file my return using Turbo Tax?

Yes, you can use TurboTax to file.  If they are paying wages, they already have a tax ID.   If there is withholding on the W-2, TurboTax requires the State ID in order to e-file.   TurboTax doesn't know if the number is the correct state ID or not, but there has to be a number entered to e-file.

I suspect the company did not register with California which begs the question if they paid the taxes even though they show amounts paid on the w-2. Odd that they have no number to give 300 employees and yet pay the taxes to the state without a number to identify themselves. Looks odd to me.

So if no ID number is given to me by the time the return is due I have to mail the tax return and I will not be able to file online?

    Thanks for your input

First I would try using the Federal ID  (EIN, Payer's ID) listed on your W-2 for the State ID and see if it gets accepted.
