Question

Mississippi resident with out of state income.

Is there a glitch with TurboTax.  I'm a Mississippi resident.  Had W-2 income from Texas accordingly there is no state income or tax withheld on the W-2.  TurboTax says leave blank if nothing.  Filing a Mississippi resident return but the Mississippi return is only recognizing in-state income.  Why won't TurboTax recognize the Texas W-2 on the Mississippi return?

Do you have it marked that you are a full year resident of MS? The W2s should be carrying into MS. Please fill this form out for someone to call you so you can explain the problem to them.

Yes I marked the return full year resident.  I deleted the W-2 in question and started again so I could detail every step.  It still came out incorrect.  I manually overrode the W-2 and calculated the state return with correct results.  Someone who does not understand taxes could file an incorrect state return because something isn't clear in the instructions.  I tried to call to explain the problem but I was not going to wait 15 minutes to get a rep.  If TurboTax cares about the problem they can call me since I manually did what I wanted to do.

I literally just realized this issue. Unfortunately for the last 4 years I trusted TurboTax (I know nothing about taxes) and filed saying I owe 0 in state. Now I think I’m going to owe around 16000 or more to state! I only discovered this because I was filing with a different preparer this year.
