Im getting a refund from Fed and IL but I owe CT.  I only lived in CT for 1/3 of the year. I've never had to pay taxes when filing, I've always received a refund.  The only thing that is different is that I didnt pay student loan interest while living in CT because they didnt charge interest on Fed. loans during Covid. Also the state income tax is higher in CT than IL.  Why do I owe the state of CT money?

The amount of state tax withheld determines refund or balance due. Be sure to verify that only the CT income is being taxed. You can change your state withholding at work.
