In May of 2024, I moved from NYC to California. I had originally moved from California to nyc for employment in april of 2023. Last year I downloaded the desktop version of turbo tax and filed 2023 as 1 federal tax return (efile joint with wife who is a resident of CA) even though I had moved to NYC. I then filed 3 separate state tax forms....2 for me (Married filing separately for both NYC and Cali) and one for my wife (married filing separately california).

Last year I moved back to California and established my residency in May 2024. What is the best way to file now that my wife and I are both in California?

I did earn income while in nyc in the first half of 2024 and paid NYC taxes. I have worked for the same employer. I spent the majority of this year in California (May-December). Lastly can I file turbo tax online or do i have to purchase the desktop version again.

You will probably want to file Federal and California Joint, and you will have to file a Part-Year New York return Separate.  It will be better to purchase the desktop version since you will need to do the "mock" separate federal for your Part-Year New York return.
